Halloween 2015

For this year's Halloween, Tiger decided he wanted to be a ghost.
MIL was totally against the idea because Chinese associates ghost with death and it's taboo.
I thought it was very brave and him, so we went ahead with the idea anyway.

We had to go to the nearest shop and bought 2 metres of white cloth for rm 6.50.
I thought it would be easy peasy but still it took me two hours just to cut a hole,
sew the seams and a ribbon around the neckline. =.="
In other words, I really sucked at this but here's the lil Casper.

Dragon Girl, was a nurse...outfit from Winnie since I didn't have time to prepare.

Tiger didn't put on his outfit 90% of the time.

That's Dexter as an overweight Batman.

Us acting crazy.

Some sweet pics of the girl.

This year's party was very last minute decision...but the usual suspects turned up anyways!
Corynne prepared this setup.
And the parents all brought food.

For games, we had a 'pinata' balloon.
That's darling Dee Dee who was a firewoman.

Winnie bought some pre-cut crafts to keep them entertained.
This fugly shot makes me laugh every time.

Our host Corynne and her Superboy!

Hubs was late as he went to collect fried chicken and some nasi lemak.
Of course, he irritated our girl with his kissing.

Thanks to everyone who came despite only having a few days to prepare!
On a side note, there is no more ghost in my bathroom and bed, according to Tiger.
He left, it seems.

Halloween Trays 2014

We are all set for Halloween 2014!
Malaysians generally do not celebrate Halloween.
Unless you are a fun, crazy mom like me :p
If I were to celebrate the Hungry Ghost Festival, it would totally freak MIL out.
Since she thinks of Halloween as a costume party...it's A-okay.

FYI, my dear Little Dragon is Princess Sofia this year.
As I am typing this, the package arrived.
It looks small...
*gulp*
Hope it fits....fingers crossed.

Tiger is going to be a pirate because he had refused it
and ended up wearing a friend's Batman suit last year
 =.="
He still doesn't want to be pirate this year. (God, grant me patience)
So, I bought a set of pirate toy from Daiso (sword, compass, eye patch, earring)
and I made this toy-based learning center with his pirate hat and a glow in the dark sword
FYI after one week, he still hasn't touch the books...

The kids like this Spooky center more.
His fav is The Haunted House by Kazuno Kohara
Dragon loves Witch's Kitchen with it's two-ways flaps

 Science
We learning about the human Skeleton
I printed the 3-parts cards from the Montessori Print Shop bundle
that came with Montessori At Home ebook.
I made a book for him, just for fun.

Fine Motor
 (Pincer grip)
Some bunny clips to match to bunny stickers

Tweezing orange pompoms.

Practical life
Sifting spiders from a tub of rice.
I didn't dye the rice so that they are still edible after washing.
GST coming, must be more money conscious :)
Added a long tong so that they learn to play peacefully.

Finger play
Some creepy crawlies rubber bands to put on the paper tube.

Patterning
Ice cube tray, round tablets from Froebel Gift 7

Math
Stole this idea from a friend.
One-to-one correspondence with the number chips and purple pumpkins
Then insert the correct number of googly eyes into each one.

Scissors skills
DIY some cutting strips with some Halloween stickers.
The pumpkin worksheet is from Kumon
Safety scissors from ELC

Our very popular sensory bin.
Any activity you can make a mess with, she's onzzzzzzz!

Added some spiders to the spooky corner.
Dragon girl hates spider....
"Eeeeee...spy...spy"
Just like a real princess.

Happy Halloween!

Toy Centered Learning: Knight versus Dragon

Knight = Tiger
Dragon = a toy, not the girl, ya?
Most of the time it is the boy vs the girl.
But not today.

 This is our simple setup.
I only had two Usborne books about knights.
I found the poor New Year Dragon in the Chinese New Year Deco Box.
Luckily I found him, otherwise we will have to use my daughter :p

My knight in rm17.90 armor :)
The helmet and shield are made from EVA foam.
They smelled when I took them out but quickly dissipated after I aired them overnight.

It came  in a set with this book from Bookxcess.
 (ISBN: 9781592238088)
You can read more about it here
We needed a sword, so I just cut one from a board and wrap the end with packing tape.
Took me about five minutes.
The kid was amazed...*flips hair*

We also had this IKEA play tent to complement our reading.
Not mine. On loan from my sister.
She buys new stuff and we get to play with them first..haha!

We talked about fighting and killing.
This child is preoccupied with the idea of dying.
If I urge him to do something risky, he will ask,
"Will die or not?"
"If I die, I cannot see you or Grandma. So I don't want to die."
Mind you, risk of dying includes jumping off tables @.@

He was irritated with the helmet after 5 minutes and
proceeded to plan an attack in his 'castle'.
His plan was to attack the enemies with magnetic alphabets,
arranged correctly and very neatly.

Perhaps he should just be a knight for Halloween.
Save me some money from buying a costume :)

Pretend play has a ton of benefits.
I do it to balance some of the Tiger Mom activities we do, like addition and memory games.
Don't want a crazy, stressed-up kid at the end of the day :)

Happy Halloween 2013

This year's Halloween was hosted by Not Me!
Haha..

So I offered to make these party packs.
Made it a little more special with personalized name tags.
In it, some typical party hats, noise makers, some candies, bubble solution or
noisy hammer, do a dot worksheet with orange stickers (I had to), and bibs for the babies

DECO
Banner, decos and games by my sister Winnie

Someone went overboard with these :)

Toilets tubes ghost and ghost lollies!
Hairbands for mommies to take pic with &
mask for the kids

Does this look creepy?

COSTUMES
Tiger was supposed to be a pirate but as usual...he didn't like it.
So, we switched his old Spiderman with Cutie L who wanted Superman.
Same colours ma Spidey and Superman...hihi
Kids!!
So, he became Batman

My sweet niece as a witch.

My handsome nephew as a booby Superman.

Lil J, suave as usual, as Vampire

Sour face Batman.
Oh, this picture is to prove that I am not as fat as the Bella show me.
See, my head is only as big as lil J's head!

My sweet fairy princess who wore her costume form 5 pm to 9 pm
WITHOUT ANY FUSS.
She also missed a naptime and conked out on the way home.

Other cutie came as Fairies, a nurse, pumpkins...so cuuuute.
This Halloween is also significant for Tiger as he had his first lollipop.
It was also some kids' first exposure to candies.

Games
Sensory bin that the kids scooped and scooped for the longest time

Baking soda and vinegar: uncover the eyeballs!

 Ice monsters

We played 'pass the parcel' where everyone got a gift >.<

Food, yumz
We had some KFC, meehoon, nuggets, fried rice, fruits tarts, donuts,

Aunty Sharon made this most delicious gula melaka and santan jelly.
To die for....
If only there were some cendol inside....slurrrppp.

I had wine...yay!
Sorry, I need alcohol in my life.
It is the key to keeping me sane+ a happy, loving married life + a doting supermom.
Send a Lambrusco if you love me ^.^

We had a blast.
It was peaceful, fun, filled with love and wonderful people.
Happy Halloween!!
